Three Important Things to Remember About Shooting
1. NO ONE was born knowing how to shoot a basketball
If you were blessed with a healthy mind and body, you CAN learn how to shoot the basketball correctly. Shooting a basketball is like swinging a golf club, throwing a football, or diving off a springboard – it is a physical act that the muscles can be trained to do. If you have learned to shoot the ball a certain way, and that way is flawed, it IS POSSIBLE to retrain your muscles to do it correctly. It is up to YOU to do it.
2. You MUST take responsibility for your own shooting success
“ The basket doesn’t move, and the ball doesn’t have a mind of its own”. The ball goes where YOU shoot it, make or miss. Don’t look for excuses or scapegoats if you consistently miss shots that others make – take the initiative to become better. And when you become a good shooter, you can share in a large part of the credit!
3. Basketball is a game of skill – and SHOOTINGis the most important skill of all!
While the size, strength, and speed of players continues to evolve, the basic fundamentals of the game have not changed. Good players and good teams still exhibit a high level of proficiency at ballhandling, rebounding, passing, and defending – with the best teams also adding the ability to shoot and score in a variety of ways under pressure! If you can make shots consistently, your coach will find a place for you to play significant minutes – guaranteed!!
